Ray Osrin was born in Brooklyn, New York on October 5, 1928. He majored in cartooning at the New York High School for Industrial Arts, studied painting at the Art Students League from 1945-1947. Osrin also worked as a freelance comic book illustrator, television animator and ghost artist for several comic strips from 1945-1957.
He was a staff artist for the Pittsburgh Press for three years before coming to the Plain Dealer in 1963. He became their editorial cartoonist in 1966 and retired in 1986. He died in 2001.
Osrin was inducted into the Cleveland Press Club's Hall of Fame. He was also a recipient of a distinguished service award from the Society of Professional Journalists, Sigma Delta Chi. He won the National Headliner award for one of his editorial cartoons in 1970 and placed third at the International Cartoon de Salon in Montreal.
This collection contains over 1500 editorial cartoons from the Cleveland Plain Dealer from 1964-1986, covering topics in local, national, and international news.
