Abstract:
Morris Morgenstern was an attorney who was active in veterans' organizations in Cleveland, Ohio. He served in the United States Army during World War I. As a veteran he helped organize and was president of the Cuyahoga Council of the Jewish War Veterans, and was also active in its national affiliates. He was president of the Joint Veterans Commission and involved in the Disabled American Veterans. He often represented veterans in his legal practice. The collection consists of certificates, newspaper clippings, programs and a scrapbook. The scrapbook provides an account of Morgenstern's veterans and legal activities.

Biography of Morris Morgenstern

Morris Morgenstern (1898-1966) was a Cleveland, Ohio, attorney who was active in veterans' organizations. Born in New York City, Morgenstern attended Baldwin Wallace College and earned his law degree at Cleveland Law School in 1920. He served in the United States Army during World War I.

As a veteran he helped organize and was president of the Cuyahoga Council of the Jewish War Veterans in Cleveland, Ohio. He was also active in its national affiliates. He was president of the Joint Veterans Commission and involved in the Disabled American Veterans. As an attorney he represented other veterans frequently enough to be known as "Mr. Veterans' Lawyer." Many of his cases involved domestic issue such as marriage and divorce, and they were covered, often sensationally, in the local press.

The Morris Morgenstern Papers (1909-1963), consist of certificates, newspaper clippings, programs and a scrapbook.

The collection is of value to researchers studying veterans' organizations and attorneys in general, and the life of Morris Morgenstern, Jewish veterans, and a colorful legal career in Cleveland, Ohio, in particular. The scrapbook provides an account of Morgenstern's veterans and legal activities.
