Hazel Collister Hutchinson (1893-1977) was a Cleveland, Ohio, poet and educator. She attended Cleveland Normal School prior to Western Reserve University from which she received her Master of Arts in English. In addition to studying in New York and Boston, she also studied with the French poet Jules Roma in L'ecole du Vieux-Colombier while tutoring English at the Sorbonne. Her poetry was published under the name Collister Hutchinson in the booklets Seven Christmas Poems, 1933 and 1973, and Toward Daybreak, 1950, as well as in such magazines as Poetry, Atlantic Monthly, Harpers, American Scholar, Nation, and American Poetry Magazine. She taught upper elementary grades in Cleveland public schools for forty-six years, including a stint at the Murray Hill School from 1936 to 1960. She was also a handwriting analyst, studying documents for forgeries, aiding corporations in choosing employees from the character revealed in their handwriting, and analyzing samples on a Channel 9 program with Sidney Andorn.
