Abstract:
The Rowfant Club is a Cleveland, Ohio, club open by invitation only to men of diverse business and professional interests whose bond is a love of books, book collecting, and the art of bookmaking. Organized in 1892, the club chose to identify itself with Frederick Locker-Lampson by adopting the name of his Sussex County, England, estate, "Rowfant." The club insignia, groundhog and candles, are used in initiation and election procedures. The collection consists of committee reports, fellowes' meeting reports, correspondence, articles, scrapbooks, meeting notices, financial records, tax records, insurance records, copyright information, resolutions, drafts of various Rowfant publications, publication lists, and various member files. The collection also includes non-correspondence relating to Rowfant auctions, candlesticks, book holdings and the Friday lunch club. Included are its yearbooks, 1974-86. The collection is useful for those interested in book collecting and bookmaking, members and participants in this organization, and men's clubs in general.
