History of the Draft Counseling Association

The Draft Counseling Association operated from approximately 1969-1972 within the University Circle neighborhood of Cleveland, Ohio. It provided draft counseling to draft age men on options and methods to avoid military service during the era of the Vietnam War. It maintained a draft counseling "hotline" and for a time, was run out of the Hillel Center on the Case Western Reserve University campus. It advised men on their legal rights within the registration process and helped those inclined to declare their status as conscientious objectors.

The Draft Counseling Association Records, 1969-1972, consist of correspondence, pamphlets, and counseling materials, including a handbook.

This collection is useful for those exploring the issue of the draft during the Vietnam War era in the United States and Cleveland, Ohio, and who want to gain another viewpoint of the military.
