Abstract:
Ralph Rudd (b. 1915) was a state legislator from Lake County, Ohio, 19591962. Rudd championed numerous liberal causes such as unemployment compensation, minimum wage laws, workers' compensation, and the abolition of capital punishment. He also served as director of the Cleveland Civil Liberties Union and on the board of directors of the Ohio Consumers League. The collection consists of correspondence, news releases, newspaper clippings, and miscellaneous material relating to legislation of interest to Rudd, to his 1960 Republican opponent, C. Lee Mantle, and other topics. The collection pertains to Rudd's activities as a state representative and to legislation relating to such areas as unemployment compensation, school finance, capital punishment, and the Ohio Fair Employment Practices Commission.

Biography of Ralph Rudd

Ralph Rudd (b. 1915) served two terms in the Ohio House of Representatives from 1959 to 1962 as Lake County's representative. A Democrat, Rudd championed numerous liberal causes such as unemployment compensation, minimum wage laws, worker's compensation, and the abolition of capital punishment. At the end of his first term he was named outstanding freshman legislator. Prior to his political career he practiced law, an occupation he resumed after 1962. Rudd also served as director of the Cleveland Civil Liberties Union and on the board of directors of the Ohio Consumers League.

Scope and Content

The Ralph Rudd Papers, 1957-1962 and undated, consist of correspondence, news releases, newspaper clippings, and miscellaneous information relating, among other topics, to legislation in which he had a strong interest and to his 1960 Republican opponent, C. Lee Mantle.

This collection relates to Rudd's activities as a state representative from Lake County, Ohio. It is also useful for researchers interested in legislation on such topics as unemployment compensation, school finance, capital punishment, and the Fair Employment Practices Commission.
