Abstract: |
Alfred E. Bell (ca. 1835-1912) was the Captain in the Ninth Tennessee Cavalry during the American Civil War. He was captured in Ohio in 1863 and incarcerated on Johnson's Island in Lake Erie until 1865. Afterwards he returned to Tennessee and entered politics. The collection consists of letters from Bell to his wife and to his sister, Fannie, while he was a prisoner of war on Johnson's Island, also a letter to Bell from a friend and fellow prisoner, George F. Wilson. |
