Finding aid for the Malone University Presidential Collections: Dr. David King

History of Dr. David King.

On October 27, 2012, Dr. David A. King was officially inaugurated as the 13th president of Malone University. The school was founded in 1892 by two devout Quakers who sought to create a training school for ministers and other workers in Christian fields. The first class had six students who paid no tuition and received no diplomas. Dr. King's inauguration took place in the 120th year of the school, after it grew from the Christian Worker's Training School to a fully accredited university with both a four-year undergraduate program and a graduate school. Dr. King is an accomplished scholar and administrator, holding degrees in social work (Eastern Mennonite University), human services administration and human resources development (Villanova University), and higher education administration (Ed.D., Temple University), as well as a certificate in education management (Harvard University Graduate School of Education). Prior experience includes serving in multiple positions at Eastern University in Pennsylvania, as a commissioner for the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities, on the board for the College and University Professional Association for Human Resources, and other committees.

Scope and Content

The collection currently contains 1.64 cubic feet of correspondence, certificates, cards and books presented to Dr. King in honor of his inauguration, as well as the media printed by the University for the Event. These are, in most cases, signed by the president or director of the presenting institution, and so in addition to demonstrating the good will expressed by the academic and political community, this collection holds administrative information, seals, and other information from over a hundred colleges and universities and several Ohio elected officials.
