History of Two-Move Chess Problems

In 1967, Robert Clyde Moore had the idea to create a collection of the best two-move chess problems by the top ten problemists in the United States. In 1986, McFarland published Moore's book, entitled Two-Move Chess Problems. Once the top problemists were selected, Moore kept up a correspondence with them about their problems. The Two-Move Chess Problems Research and Manuscript Collection has these correspondences as well a collection of other individual problems published between 1857-1982 thought to be the best of the best American problems. The collection also houses two editor's manuscripts with edits of Two-Move Chess Problems.

Scope and Content

Two Move Chess Problems by Robert C. Moore has two parts. The first part is a collection of the best American chess problem composers top ten two-move chess compositions. Part two is a collection of the best American two-move chess problems by various composers from the 1859-1982. The second part was compiled by Edgar Holladay. The TMCP by Robert C. Moore Archive has the correspondence letters between Robert C. Moore and the ten best American chess problem composers: Marcel Aschenazi, William L. Barclay, Christopher Becker, David L. Brown, Robert E. Burger, Newman Guttman, Eric M. Hassberg, Edgar Holladay, Kenneth S. Howard, Walter Jacobs, Milan R. Vukcevich, and F. Vaux Wilson, Jr.
