The principle business of the Dayton Manufacturing Company was the manufacture of railway car hardware, although the company later branched out into electric and oil headlamps and brass works. Records in this collection include quarterly and annual reports, agreements and contracts with outside companies, legal documents concerning ownership and royalties from patents, extensive financial records which provide information about the daily operating activities of the company, and files containing correspondence with firms doing business with the Dayton Manufacturing Company. Also included are files which document the Metal Polisher's Union strike of 1900-1901.
