History of Alpha Delta Kappa, Ohio Kappa Chapter

The Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority is an organization for women in the educational field. Founded in 1947 by Agnes Shipman Robertson, Marie Neal, Marion Southall and Hattie Poppino. This sorority focuses on improving the professional lives of its members, as well as support the chapter communities in education and charity. The Ohio Kappa chapter was established in 1959. The chapter has achieved the sorority's mission in education through organization events and community outreach. They made bags for the homeless for community outreach and organized holiday parties or events for the members of the organization. By attending seminars, meetings, conferences etc. The members of the Ohio Kappa were able to improve the education of its members and the local community.

Scope and Content

Series I: Administrative, contains meeting minutes, attendance sheets, meeting announcements, event programs, newspaper clippings, thank you letters of donation, cards/notes to fellow members, Meeting Agendas, Pearls of Achievement Awards, annual event information sheets, activity sheets, Altruistic reports, and chapter information and guidelines dating from 1959-2015.

Series II: Financial, contains treasurer reports, savings and checking account records, chapter audits and member payment records, dating from 1959-2012.

Series III: Scrapbooks, contains photos, programs, copies of a Proclamation from the Mayor, Membership photos and names, awards, and crafts circa 1950-2012.

Series IV: Photographs, contains photos of annual events, official group photos, individual member photos, and photos of members doing activities, circa 1960-2010.

Scrapbooks in the collection were moved to their own separate storage boxes for their own preservation and storage. The individual photos not attached to the scrapbooks have been gathered and put into their own box for preservation and storage.

The collection was donated to Wright State University Libraries' Special Collections and Archives by Debi Koch, chapter president, on behalf of the organization, in July 2017.
