Mayoral courts have the authority to hear cases that involved minor infractions and offenses. The court, which was headed by the mayor, had the ability to impose fines that were deemed suitable according to the offense.
The collection consists of the dockets of the early mayors of Hudson, Ohio, and one Justice of Peace starting in the year 1896 and concluding in the year 1948. The dockets contain the names of people who were brought before the mayor for committing various different minor offenses. The dockets, however, are not kept in any order and mayors are scattered throughout the different volumes. The different mayors include: Samuel E. Judd (1869, 1878-1879), William Beebe (1870-1871), Sylvester Thompson (1873), Rollin Bosworth (1874-1875), Charles Grant (1876), Horace Foster (1880-1887), Henry Lee (1888-1894), John Woolridge (1894-1895), Charles Read (1896-1898), Edward E. Rodgers (1898-1902), Ernest Fillius (1902-1907, 1914-1915), H. A. Sullivan (1908-1913, 1916-1917), Arthur Waite (1918-1921, 1930-1936), Ray Miller (1926-1929), Guy Garman (1938-1940), Henry Barlow (1946-1948). It also includes entries from Matthew C. Read (1895-1901) when he served as Justice of the Peace.
