History of Railroads in Perry County, Ohio

These cyanotype photographs were most likely taken in Perry County for the purpose of surveying potential railroad expansion. At the time, the railroad line most likely belonged to one of the following lines: the Cincinnati and Baltimore and Ohio Railroad; the Columbus, Shawnee and Hocking Railroad; the Kanawha and Michigan Railraod; or the Toledo and Ohio Central Railroad. The Congo plant, a coal facility in Perry County, is also represented. The small town of Congo was developed as a model mining town in 1891-1892. The town of Congo received mail service from May 19, 1892 until February 28, 1959.
