David G. Brown received his Ph.D. in Economics from Princeton University and his A.B. degree from Denison University. Brown served as Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost from 1970-82. While at Miami he chaired the newly formed University Council which included students, faculty, and administrators, and served as a working group for the more comprehensive University Senate that was chaired by the president. Brown established the annual Academic Administration Seminar-all day retreats involving vice presidents, deans, heads of major offices and refined a formal promotion and tenure review. He also oversaw expansion of the PhD program and creation of associate degree programs at Hamilton and Middletown. He served as president of the American Association for Higher Education and chair of Chief Academic Officers for the American Council on Education.
