Biography of Warren G. French

Warren G. French (WGF) is a Professor Emeritus of English from Indiana University. His focus was twentieth-century American literature and social history. WGF received his B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania in 1943; his M.A. from the University of Texas in 1948; and his Ph.D. from the University of Texas-Austin in 1954. In 1985, he received the award of Doctor of Humane Letters from Ohio University. WGF's publication include volumes for the Twayne's United States Authors Series, which is a series that presents concise critical introductions to great writers and their works. He wrote the volumes on John Steinbeck and J.D. Salinger. He has also acted as a compiler and editor of books.

The Warren G. French (WGF) papers span from the 1930s to 1990 and document WGF's career as a professor of English, author and editor. The collection includes correspondence; drafts and galleys of manuscripts; WGF's collection of publications, including those by him; scrapbooks; and audio reels. Some of the audio reels are for broadcasts of "Books on My Mind."
