Biography of John W. Corrington

John W. Corrington was born in 1932 in Ohio, but moved to Shreveport, Louisiana while still a young boy. He attended a Jesuit High school where he was expelled for "the wrong attitude." In 1956, he graduated from Centenary College who now gives an award in his name for literary excellence. In 1960 he received a M.A. from Rice and also accepted a teaching position at Louisiana State University. Corrington then went on to Sussex England to work on his PhD in Philosophy at the University of Sussex which he received in 1965. It was while he was in England that he published a book of poetry called "The Anatomy of Love."

In 1966 Corrington and his wife, Joyce, returned to the United States and he started to teach at Loyola University in New Orleans. By this time he had been published in many literary journals, had published several books on poetry, and even wrote a novel, "And Wait for the Night." In 1975 Corrington obtained his J.D. from Tulane Law School and practiced law after graduation in New Orleans for three years.

In the early 1970s Corrington and his wife wrote several screenplays together including "The Omega Man" which went on to star Charlton Heston and was redone as "I am Legend" starring Will Smith. They also wrote "Return to Planet of the Apes" and "Killer Bees" while Corrington was in law school at Tulane. Corrington also later went on to write for television soap operas General Hospital and One Life to Live. John W. Corrington died in 1988 in Malibu, California.
