Edwin Watts Chubb (EWC) was elected as Acting President of Ohio University twice, once after Alston Ellis died in 1920 and again after Elmer Burritt Bryan died in 1934. Each time EWC served for one year. EWC was Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences from 1907 to 1936 and was considered an expert scholar on the works and person of William Shakespeare. The Edwin Watts Chubb Library was named in his honor in 1931. This building is now Chubb Hall.
Edwin Watts Chubb (EWC) personal papers span from 1909 to 1955 and document EWC's activities after retirement from Ohio University. The papers include photographs of EWC at university functions, a short biography, a manuscript analyzing Shakespeare and Goethe, and correspondence between EWC and John C. Baker detailing EWC's life and health during his time spent at The Rectory in Greenville, Delaware. Also included is an expenditure log of the College of Arts and Sciences from when EWC was Dean.
