History of Michigan Women Psychologists

The Michigan Women Psychologists (MWP) was a nonprofit organization that was founded in the late summer of 1987, which included 115 women from 10 Michigan counties. Within the first 5 years, their numbers grew rapidly and represented 22 counties. The organization's main focus was to foster the professional and educational development of women psychologists in Michigan. This focus was performed by providing tailored conferences, fostering professional and educational development, developing a network support system and mentoring relationships, educating and advocating for legislative issues, and promoting research within the areas of concerns to women. In 2003, membership to Michigan Women Psychologists was extended to all women mental health professionals.

The Michigan Women Psychologists archival records document the activities of the organization, which include executive board meeting files, administrative files, committee files, membership files, newsletters, and photographs. Items of note include an organization history, the Cultural Diversity Committee files, and event photographs.
