Biography of Carl M. Christ

Carl M. Christ (1922-2002) served as a Bombardier/Navigator on B-26 Marauder medium bombers during World War II. He was assigned to the 494th Bomb Squadron, 344th Bomb Group. Later Christ became a founding member and Historian for the 344th Bomb Group Association. In that capacity he collected, wrote about and reported on various aspects of 344th Bomb Group (M) history.

Scope and Content

Of note in this collection are the oral histories about D-Day that members of the 344th Bomb Group Association recorded. Copies of these were then contributed to the Eisenhower Center, University of New Orleans. The microfilm records of the 344th Bomb Group including operational reports, lost aircraft and missing air crew reports are also included in the collection. Christ's Organizational files for the 344th Bomb Group Association include research material and copies of articles he wrote for the 344th Bomb Group Association newsletter Milk Run. There are unit histories for the 344th Bomb Group and each of the squadrons that were a part of that organization. There are also photocopies of the missing air crew reports, orders, mission reports, reunion rosters and memorabilia.

Statement of Arrangement

This collection is organized into four series: Military Records, Organizational Files, Microfilm and Microform Materials and Audiovisual Materials. The Military Records series includes Christ's 201 file and orders. These records are organized alphabetically then chronologically. These files are organized alphabetically and then chronologically. Photographs have been retained in the folders. The Microfilm and Microform Materials series include records and squadron histories from the 344th Bomb Group. The Audiovisual series is composed of oral histories organized alphabetically by Narrator last name. VHS videocassettes of 344th Bomb Group Association Reunions, documentaries concerning the B-26 Marauder bomber and D-Day have been organized alphabetically by title.
