The Young Catholic Messenger was the flagship publication of Catholic George Pflaum Publishing Company of Dayton, Ohio, 1885-1970, and distributed throughout the American Catholic school system. Originally, the newspaper was published quarterly as a supplement to Sunday School students. Its aim was to illustrate truth for youthful minds and to offset unwholesome newspapers directed at youth. As the decades went on, the newspaper aimed to supplement school curriculum in the subjects of civics, current events, and reading classes.
This collection consists of an incomplete run of The Young Catholic Messenger. Early 1884-1885 copies come from the Mount St. Mary Seminary Library. The collection contains a few issues from 1917, then jumps to 1929.
