On January 16, 1884, the Co-operative Committee, comprised of women representing the parishes in the Episcopal diocese, met to plan activities to support the Hospital of the Protestant Episcopal Church (now called Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center). Mrs. T. H. C. Allen was elected president, with the remainder of the committee composed of three representatives from each Episcopalian parish in the Diocese. They furnished bed and table linens, clothing of every description, books, magazines, toys, pictures, etc., as well as coordinating the hospital's annual Donation Day from 1884 until 1973.
The Co-operative Society has continued to support the hospital by providing material needs and financial support in a variety of creative ways. For example, the Cooperative Society operated a Thrift Shop until 1992 to raise funds for the hospital.
The Cincinnati Children's Hospital Co-operative Society Records consist of binders, scrapbooks, meeting minutes, and Thrift Shop records documenting the history of the Co-operative Society. Annual reports of the Co-operative Society are included in bound volumes with annual reports to the Board of Trustees, which date back to the First Annual Report in 1884.
