Biography of Anthony F. Grasha

Anthony "Tony" Grasha, 1942-2003, was a Cognitive and Social Psychologist. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Cincinnati in 1968 and began teaching at the University after serving a tour in Vietnam in psychological operations. He earned his army commission of Lieutenant through ROTC and was discharged as a Captain.

His distinguished career at UC, which he began as the Director of the Institute for Research and Training in Higher Education, ultimately centered on his teaching skills and a commitment to improving students' learning experience. Grasha was the first to receive the University title of Distinguished Teaching Professor. Additionally, he was a recipient of the AB Dolly Cohen Award for Excellence in University Teaching.

Grasha wrote numerous articles and gave scores of presentations on the subject of teaching and learning, authored several books, including his 1996 publication, Teaching with Style: A Practical Guide to Enhancing Learning by Understanding Teaching and Learning Styles. Workshop presentations were also on his list of accomplishments, including for the United States Naval Academy, where he served as a consultant and workshop leader for over two decades. Grasha passed away in 2003 at the age of 61.
