Detailed Description of The Collection
Series I: Artifacts (4 boxes) contains items from the OSU School of Nursing, St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing, and others. One of the most significant artifacts is the band issued to Rena E. Daily Coppess on December 16, 1916, one of the first four Senior Bands issued. Also in this series are silver teapots and trays used in Neil Hall as well as a series of dolls depicting key historical figures in nursing. This series is arranged by item.
Series II: Building (1 box) contains information related to Newton Hall, particularly about the ground breaking and dedication of the building. This series also contains two files related to the medical center as a whole rather than Newton Hall. This series is arranged alphabetically.
Series III: Committees (1 box) contains material from eight different committees. This series is arranged alphabetically.
Series IV: Correspondence (3 boxes) contains correspondence to and from many key individuals in the College’s history including Mildred Newton, Henry Cramblett, Jessie Harrod, and Imogene King. Due to the volume of senders and receivers, this series is arranged by date.
Series V: Curriculum and Research (5 boxes) contains material related to the curriculum (undergraduate and graduate) in general, specific course materials, and research. This series is arranged alphabetically.
Series VI: Faculty (1 box) contains certificates and curriculum vitas of several faculty members. This series is arranged alphabetically.
Series VII: History (5 boxes) contains general information about the School/College of Nursing. Highlights of this series include programs of several anniversary year celebrations. This series is arranged alphabetically.
Series VIII: Media (33 boxes) contains various types of media including photographs, scrapbooks, VHS tapes, and DVDs. This series is arranged by type of media. The photographs depict events, general photos, groups, individuals, negatives, slides and yearbook photographs. There are fourteen scrapbooks comprised by nursing organizations, classes, and individuals. Materials that came loose from their original pages are located in a file within each box.
Series IX: Students (1 box) contains information about students of the College. This series is arranged alphabetically.
Series X: Oversized (8 boxes) contains three-dimensional items that were too large to fit in standard sized boxes. Oversized items of note include Mildred Newton’s Stamp Collection, Rena Edward Daily’s diploma from 1917, and class photographs.
