Biography of Karl Hubenthal
Karl Hubenthal was an editorial cartoonist for the Los Angeles Herald-Examiner (1955-1982. Previously, he was a sports cartoonist for the Los Angeles Examiner (1949-1955).
Scope and Content
This collection includes more than 500 original editorial cartoons (ink on paper) by Karl Hubenthal dating from January 12,
1955 to October 14, 1981 and original sports cartoons dating from ca. 1950 to 1986. The collection also Includes 2 original
designs for the Association of American Editorial Cartoonists logo and the AAEC membership logo , along with many award
and certificated earned by the artist.

Statement of Arrangement
This collection is divided into two series. Series I contains original cartoon art by Karl Hubenthal. The original art has
been cataloged on the item level in the Art Database. Series II contains various awards, photographs, slides on editorial
cartooning and cartoon history, and the wooden AAEC logo designed by Hubenthal.
