History of Connelly Group Home

The Connelly Group Home, originally The Connelly Home for The Mentally Retarded, was the first group home for mentally challenged women. It was opened by the Connelly Home for the Mentally Retarded, a nonprofit subsidiary organization of the Catholic Federation of the Mentally Retarded. This group opened the Villa Maria Group Home in 1978 for men. When the Connelly Group Home opened in June 1980, Sister Martha Gallagher, S.C. was the Director of Resident Services for Connelly Homes. Sister Martha said that the focus of the staff was to provide residents with a normal home environment that offered educational, vocational and rehabilitation services based on individual need. The Connelly Group Home celebrated its 25th Anniversary on July 17th, 2005.
