History of Holy Cross Parish

On August 1, 1978, Father William J. Mitchell left Queen of Peace Parish to establish the new Parish of Holy Cross. Ground breaking ceremonies were held on September 14, 1980 to coincide with the Feast of the Holy Cross. Construction began on December 15th, 1980 and work was completed November 15th, 1981. Holy Cross Parish celebrated its first mass on November 19th 1981 and held the Dedication ceremonies on March 9, 1982 with Bishop Thomas O'Brien officiating. On September 13th 2005, the parish celebrated its 25th Anniversary of its groundbreaking. (Above information received from web site) From 1987 to 1990, Sister Rosemary Gornick was director of religious education. S. Rosemary Garnick was hired in 1990 as Administrative Assistant and Sister Mary Eunice McGreevy served as Pastoral Associate here from 1987 to 1997. She worked with adult religious education, Bible classes, adult Confirmation, "re-membering," and RCIA. Sister retired in 1996.
