Abstract: |
Stella Hadden-Alexander was a concert pianist and student of American composer Edward MacDowell. She left her hometown of Sandusky, Ohio, to study music in Boston. After her graduation in 1883, Mrs. Hadden-Alexander toured the country until the 1930s, appearing in such places as Cleveland, Washington, and New York. In 1908 she settled in Wellesley, Massachusetts, and dedicated herself to the propagation of her teacher's music. The collection consists of concert programs (1898-1932), notes on her Cleveland, Ohio appearance at Miss Mittleburger's School for Girls (1900), correspondence concerning her own career and that of the Edward MacDowell Association (1920-1935), financial statements (1917-1924), printed material concerning fund raising and benefit concerts for the Edward MacDowell Association (1906-1935), and newspaper clippings, photoduplicated, on Mrs. Hadden-Alexander's performances, and on Mr. and Mrs. Edward MacDowell (1898-1930). |
