Abstract: |
In 1892, Quakers J. Walter and Emma Malone opened a private school in downtown Cleveland, Ohio, to train Christian workers.
They were the only faculty and their first class, which was taught in rooms of a rented house furnished by gifts of friends
and was charged for board only, not tuition, was comprised of only six students. This small school, the Christian Worker's
Training School, would eventually become what is today (2012) known as Malone University. In this collection are covered
the early years of the school to approximately 1911, at which time the school became known at the Cleveland Bible Institute.
This time period includes the move in 1897 to a dedicated set of buildings owned by the school on Cedar Avenue in Cleveland,
the growth of the faculty, the addition of a second and third year to the program, the State of Ohio's accreditation in 1899,
several name changes and the creation of the Cleveland Bible Academy. The collection contains publications, minutes, reports,
official documents, scrapbooks, registers, ledgers, directories and photographs created by and related to the Christian Worker's
Training School, the Friends' Bible Institute and Training School, and the Cleveland Bible Institute and Training School,
spanning approximately 1892 to 1911 (with some materials spanning multiple years that end later, but still cover the appropriate
years as well).
