William S. Nehez (1919-2009) was born into an east side family that was once honored as the Largest Hungarian Family in Ohio. He was married to Ann (nee Cibar) and had one child, Denise.

Nehez worked for the Cleveland News as a photographer, later serving with the Army five years, four of which were as a combat photographer, covering D-Day for the United State Army Signal Corps and other events in the European theater with the Army Engineers Pictorial Service. After the war he was active with the Newspaper and Newsreel Worker's Union, and employed by the Cleveland Press where he contributed written pieces in addition to his photography.

William Nehez contributed an oral history of his World War II experiences (U.S. Army in Company A of the 3908th Signal Service Battalion) for the Library of Congress. His highest rank was T5 and he served in the European theater. The recording was made at Nehez' home in Garfield Heights, Ohio on May 1st, 2003. He was 83 at the time of this recording.
