Biography of Barbara Straus Reed

Barbara Straus Reed was a resident graduate student of Ohio University during the 1978-1980 school years. She received her PhD in August 1987 from the College of Communication. As of 2006, she was an associate professor in the Department of Journalism and Mass Media in the School of Communication, Information and Library Studies at Rutgers University.

Scope and Content

Barbara Straus Reed collection on southeastern Ohio Jews dates from 1979 and documents her project on the history of Jewish families in southeastern Ohio. The collection includes summary detail on Jews in southeastern Ohio, a paper on the migration of Jewish settlers into southeastern Ohio, typescript summaries of interviews with Jewish residents of southeastern Ohio, and biographies of early Jewish families in the region. The collection is arranged with the summary materials first, followed by the individual interview summaries, conducted in 1979, placed in alphabetical order. Audio tape recordings of the interviews are at the American Jewish Archives in Cincinnati, Ohio.
