Frederick Merrick was a professor of natural science at Ohio University beginning in 1838. From 1842 to 1843 he was the pastor of the Methodist Church in Marietta, Ohio. In 1843, he was appointed the financial agent of the Ohio Wesleyan University and eventually became the president of that institution. His father is Noah Merrick.
