History of National Amateur Press Association

The National Amateur Press Association is the oldest amateur press group in the world having its first convention in 1876. Each month it mails a bundle of papers to all members containing the work of printers, some who do not write, and writers and poets, and some who also print. Some edit and publish the work of others, leaving the craft of printing to yet others. Methods used have been letterpress, offset, photocopy, mimeograph, and spirit duplicator. Recent bundles often contain journals produced by computer and laser printer. In each case, the words and their presentation are the focus, not the technology.

Scope and Content

The collection of National Amateur Press Association mailings spans from 1889 to 2006 and contains the monthly bundles of papers sent to members of this organization.
