History of Ohio University. Office of the Ombudsman.

The Ohio University (OU) Office of the Ombudsman (OO) was established in the fall of 1970, following the campus riots and school closing in the spring of that year. The OO is a confidential service open to all students, employees, alumni, parents and community members at OU. The overarching mission of the OO is twofold: to ensure that every member of the university community receives equitable and fair treatment and due process; and to support and facilitate a positive working and learning environment.

Scope and Content

The Office of the Ombudsman (OO) records spans from 1965 to 1997 and documents the creation, development, mission, and activities of this Ohio University (OU) office. Included are annual reports, correspondence, program descriptions, committee reports and proposals, office statistics, newspaper clippings, grievances and press briefing transcripts. There are documents relating to the Student Workers Union in the mid-1970s and the Union of Non-Academic employees during the administration of OU President Claude Sowle.
