Biography of Frank Victor Whitehouse

Frank Victor Whitehouse was a professor of Spanish at Ohio University from 1917 to 1954. He served as chair of the Modern Languages Department during four different academic years: 1916-17, 1925-26, 1936-37, and 1944-45. In addition, he was the first Advisor of Foreign Students, was acting Dean of University College in 1939, and may have served in the military during World War I, as university records show that he was on "war leave" during the 1918-1919 academic year.

Scope and Content

Frank Victor Whitehouse (FVW) papers span from 1909 to 1951 and contain personal papers collected by FVW. This collection was originally part of a box of miscellaneous Ohio University (OU) historical papers, and separated due to the scope of the papers. The papers include photographs; correspondence from former students; correspondence from guest lecturers invited to OU by FVW, including a letter from Eleanor Roosevelt; and printed programs from recitals and concerts.
