Charles H. Tillson was born on February 29, 1920 near Livermore, Iowa. In December 1940, Tillson joined the United States Army Air Force at Lowry Field in Denver, Colorado. In 1943, Tillson became a flight instructor for the B-26 Marauders and remained state-side throughout World War II. After being discharged, he went into engineering, eventually working with B.F. Goodrich until retiring in 1985. He died on March 28, 2007.
The Charles H. Tillson Papers consist of the military records of Charles H. Tillson including flight records and service papers from 1941-1947. Also of note is an unpublished autobiography of Charles H. Tillson detailing his life from 1920-1990 and photographs taken during the time Tillson spent at Ladd Field in Fairbanks, Alaska.
