Biography of Monsignor Raphael Markham

Raphael Markham was born in Pleasant Run, Ohio on December 11, 1882. After his ordination at St. John Lateran Basilica, Rome, in 1909, he returned to Mt. St. Mary Seminary of the West, to become a professor of theology. In 1934, Markham was elevated to a domestic prelate with the title right reverend monsignor. He was appointed to the chaplainship at the convent and made representative of the archbishop for diocesan women's religious communities. He died January 1, 1955. At the time of his death, Monsignor Markham was the diocesan director of the Priest's Eucharistic League and Apostleship of Prayer.

Scope and Content

Monsignor Raphael Markham designed these prayer cards primarily to assist dying non-Catholics, encouraging them to elicit the acts necessary for salvation. These cards have been translated into 25 languages, most of which are included in this collection.
