History of The Springer Institute

The Springer Institute, the first Catholic School for the Deaf in Ohio, was opened on Eight and Plum Streets in the fall of 1887. It opened as a free school in the cathedral parish and later moved to the rectory. Within a year there were thirteen pupils on the roll. The school operated for only three years.
