History of Southwestern Ohio Society of General Physicians
The Southwestern Ohio Society of General Physicians (SOSGP) was founded in 1949 and was a regional chapter of the Ohio Academy
of General Physicians (OAGP), which was a regional chapter of the American Academy of General Physicians (AAGP). Eventually,
the organizational name would change to the Southwestern Ohio Society of Family Physicians (SOSFP) along with the Ohio Academy
of Family Physicians (OAFP) and the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP); all three organizations are still in operation
as of June 2015.
Scope and Content
The Southwestern Ohio Society of General Physicians collection occupies 1.5 linear feet and consists of 3 boxes, 1 entirely
devoted to newsletters, most bound, and audio-visual aides . The subject matter of the collection ranges from annual and
financial reports, meeting minutes, correspondence, case reports, newsletters and publications, including a list of Presidents
and Daniel Drake Award winners from 1949 to 1976, and special projects. There are also materials from both the Ohio Academy
of General Practice and the American Academy of General Practice, which has been divided into separate series and are located
in box 2. The collection spans the years 1950 to 1976.
